Massive Yunus fraud: Sajeeb

The prime minister’s son has defended the government sacking Grameen Bank managing director Muhammad Yunus over ‘unapproved’ reappointment.

In an email obtained by bdnews24.com, Sajeeb A Wazed, who also advises Sheikh Hasina, made available some facts from the government side.

The Bangladesh Bank last week ordered the removal of Yunus as Grameen Bank head, saying that his reappointment did not have its approval and that he has been managing director illegally since 1999. Read more of this post

DRØBAK: Arifur Rahman satt bak lås og slå i seks måneder etter å ha tegnet en kattunge med navnet Mohammed. Nå stiller han ut sine arbeider i Avistegnernes Hus.

My experience of Norway

I was officially welcomed in Norway by the Mayor of Drobak city Thore Vestby, who gave me a painting of Drobak and a mug as mementoes of the occasion. The more I spent time with him, the more I realized that Bangladesh desperately needs a people-friendly and honest politician like him to make the country corruption-free. Read more of this post

Tegnere i Arbeidermagasinet/Magasinet for alle (1927–1970)

Arbeider-Magasinet – Magasinet for alle

Read more of this post

Born in Somalia,  K’naan spent his childhood in Mogadishu  and lived there during the Somali Civil War, which began in 1991. His aunt, Magool, was one of Somalia’s most famous singers. K’naan’s grandfather, Haji Mohammad, was a poet. He isMuslim,  and his name, Keinan, means “traveler” in the Somali language. Shakira

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll (born February 2, 1977), known professionally as Shakira (pronounced /ʃəˈkɪərə/, Spanish: [tʃaˈkiɾa] or [ʃaˈkiɾa]), is a Colombian singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, dancer, and philanthropist who emerged as a musical prodigy in the music scene of Latin America in the early 1990s. Born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, Shakira revealed many of her talents in school as a live performer, demonstrating her vocal ability with rock and roll, Latin and Middle Eastern influences with her own original twist on belly dancing. Shakira is a native Spanish speaker and also speaks fluent English and Portuguese.
After commercial flops with local producers on her first two albums, and little-known outside Colombia, Shakira decided to produce her own brand of music. In 1995 she released Pies Descalzos, which brought her great fame in Latin America and Spain, and her 1998 album ¿Dónde Están los Ladrones? was a critical success. Since then she has gained many fans in semi-Hispanophone countries, and many non-Spanish-speaking countries, especially the United States. In 2001, and aided by heavy rotation of the music video, “Whenever, Wherever”, she broke through into the English-speaking world with the release of Laundry Service, which sold over 13 million copies worldwide. Four years later, Shakira released two album projects called Fijación Oral Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation Vol. 2. Both reinforced her success, particularly with the most successful song in the 21st century to date, “Hips Don’t Lie”. From October-November 2009 Shakira released her latest album She Wolf worldwide. Administration Outlines Proposed Changes to ‘No Child’ Law

The Obama administration outlined on Monday morning some of the proposed changes it would like to make in a sweeping overhaul of President Bush’s signature education law, No Child Left Behind. The changes, which are outlined in a document discussing the Department of Education portions of the president’s $3.8 trillion budget for the 2011 fiscal year, include the replacement of the current system for judging schools based on student test scores and the shift toward increased competition in distributing federal education dollars.

The administration is also proposing to eliminate the law’s 2014 deadline for bringing every American child to academic proficiency.

In $3.8 Trillion Budget, Obama Pivots to Trim Future Deficits

WASHINGTON — President Obama sent Congress on Monday a proposed budget of $3.8 trillion for the fiscal year 2011, saying that his plan would produce a decade-long reduction in the deficit from $1.6 trillion this year, a shortfall swollen by $100 billion in additional tax cuts and public works spending that he is seeking right away.

“We simply cannot continue to spend as if deficits don’t have consequences, as if waste doesn’t matter, as if the hard-earned tax money of the American people can be treated like Monopoly money,” Mr. Obama said at the White House.

But at the end of the decade, the yearly deficits would begin moving up again, as the projected costs of health and retirement programs for an aging population start to escalate, according to forecasts in the administration’s new blueprint.

No budget proposal is ever enacted wholesale by Congress, and the spreadsheet-boggling numbers in the White House plan are sure to produce anguished partisan and ideological debates over how best to address the deficit and the nation’s lingering economic problems between now and the start of the new fiscal year next Oct. 1 — if indeed Congress manages to complete its work by then, right before the midterm elections. The Cult of Domesticity and True Womanhood

The Cult of Domesticity & True Womanhood Defined:

Between 1820 and the Civil War, the growth of new industries, businesses, and professions helped to create in America a new middle class. (The Middle class consisted of families whose husbands worked as lawyers, office workers, factory managers, merchants, teachers, physicians and others.)

Although the new middle-class family had its roots in preindustrial society, it differed from the preindustrial family in three major ways:

Late-Night Shift Sinking, NBC Wants Leno Back in Old Slot

Faced with the failure of the biggest recent gamble in television, NBC is shuffling its late-night deck one more time.
The network has a plan in the works to restore Jay Leno to his old spot at 11:35 each weeknight for a half-hour, while pushing the man who replaced him, Conan O’Brien, to a starting time of 12:05 a.m. Mr. O’Brien would then have a full hour.

NBC executives held extensive discussions with both Mr. Leno and Mr. O’Brien on Thursday about the future of the network’s late-night lineup. One senior executive, who declined to be identified because of the continuing talks, said that the moves were still being thrashed out by the representatives of each of the stars, but that an agreement was essentially in place. There is no timetable yet to issue a final announcement of the plan because contractual details remain to be worked out.
