The Directorate General of Health Service today confirmed the first swine flu infection in Bangladesh.
“The first human case of Pandemic Influenza H1N1, 2009 [Swine Flu] virus infection has been detected on June 18 in a patient of febrile illness in Dhaka, Bangladesh,” the DGHS said in a press release.
The patient recently returned from the United States.
The patient’s sample of throat swab and nasal wash had been collected and jointly tested by IEDCR and ICDDR’B, according to the press statement.
The details were not disclosed in the statement.
The National Rapid Response Team was closely monitoring the patient and the concerned family.
The other contacts of the patient are also under observation.
